“Should I start thinking about Windows 11 IoT?”
Windows 11 IoT Enterprise became available for purchase at the end of 2021. If you’re starting to think about upgrading devices or planning to run your new fleet on Windows 11 IoT Enterprise, here’s what you need to know.
What’s new
Windows 11 IoT Enterprise has all the features of Windows 11 Enterprise, plus advanced lockdown features. If your device requires the latest hardware support, including USB 4.0 and WiFi 6E, Windows 11 IoT Enterprise has you covered.
What you need to know
Windows 11 IoT Enterprise is currently available exclusively on the General Availability Channel (GAC). The mandatory feature updates required in this service model pose a problem for device makers who need to lock down devices, and don’t want updates to impact applications that sit on top of the OS. The natural upgrade path for most of our customers running Windows 10 IoT LTSC will be to wait for the Windows 11 IoT LTSC release in late 2024 which will allow at-will security updates.
Hardware requirements for Windows 11 IoT Enterprise
